Meet your teacher

Hello! I am Ms. Kate. I am the sole preschool teacher and owner of Stem Early Learning Centre.

 

I am a passionate, dedicated educator with over 10 years of experience. I owned and operated a small home daycare while my own children were little and that is where I fell in love with educating and caring for young children. After my children grew to school age, I began teaching in daycare and preschool centres in the community. The most notable position I held was Lead Preschool Teacher and Program Facilitator at the Treehouse Forest Preschool where I taught an entirely outdoor preschool program and led school-aged class field trips in a Regional Nature Conservancy park. It was there that I learned first hand the importance of nature-based, immersive, outdoor education.

 

I am a lifelong learner who is excited to share my joy of learning with Stem Early Learning students. I have two degrees: a Bachelor of Arts with a focus on history, archaeology and psychology, and a Bachelor of Education. I am also fully certified as an Early Childhood Educator. As a lifelong learner, I also have taken many opportunities to extend my knowledge through professional development workshops and communities of practice.

I grew up on a farm in the Kootenays and we spent all of our family vacation time camping in the backwoods, a wonderful childhood. I moved to Kelowna for university in 2003 and ended up staying there for 17 years! I met my husband during my first degree and we made a good life there, complete with two wonderful children, and escaped to the forest whenever we could. My family and I finally had the chance to get out of the city and we moved to the Enderby/Ashton Creek area in the summer of 2020. It felt like coming home! We have been building our hobby farm and playing in the forest and river since! Stem Early Learning Centre is located on our residential property and I am excited to share our little slice of heaven with you and your children.
