About Stem Preschool

Wonder. Adventure. Belonging.

Stem Early Learning Centre, located just outside of Enderby in the Ashton Creek area, offers two unique programs: Nature-based preschool classes, and Bushcrafters, a survival and nature study class for 5-7 year olds.

Preschool:

The preschool curriculum is inquiry and place-based, hands-on, immersive, experiential, and child-focused. Children will spend much of their time at preschool outside in a play-space designed to encourage curiosity and wonder about the natural world, and allow for children to develop a deep connection with the natural place and with each other. Stem Preschool curriculum focuses on early skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, while also providing opportunities for expression through process art projects, and literacy through oral story-telling, fiction and non-fiction reading, letter recognition and printing opportunities. Children will learn to observe, measure, test hypotheses, build, collaborate, and create, all through dynamic play experiences.

Bushcrafters:

In the Bushcrafters group, children learn and practice survival skills each week. Children build knowledge and skills, week upon week, covering a wide range of survival based skills. We build our nature study curriculum together, following the children's interests and nature's provisions. We engage in frequent explorations into the larger forest, just beyond our outdoor classroom. Children have the opportunity to play freely with peers in the outdoor classroom each class, building friendships and social skills as they grow their imaginations and creativity together.

The outdoor classroom is on the edge of a larger forest with views of the farm so children will have many small encounters with the natural world each day, from watching farm animals play, hearing squirrels and birds twitter, and catching bugs, to measuring rain, weighing stones, and finding out how far they can jump off of a stump.

Stem also includes a lovely indoor space where we wash up, warm up, and continue our learning in a Montessori-inspired environment.

Stem Early Learning Centre is a place where children are loved, nurtured, and inspired - where children blossom.
